  • Tiny and Cute Bottles: Korean Traditional Liquor Makers Join the Miniature Trend

Korea’s traditional liquor industry is actively launching miniature products. Small-sized bottles not only allow consumers to experience premium liquors at reasonable prices but also serve as valuable gifts and collectibles. Distilled liquor miniatures, in particular, have lower risks of spoilage and are increasingly popular as overseas gifts, driving steady market growth.

In this trend, Jeju Citrus introduced a new 100㎖ miniature version of its mandarin-distilled liquor Shillye Myeongju. Just like the original 750㎖ bottle, it is distilled from fermented Jeju mandarins and aged in oak barrels, with the packaging refreshed in a triangular design. Shillye Myeongju is crafted from mandarins harvested by about 140 farms in Shillye Village, Seogwipo, offering subtle smoky, citrus, and vanilla notes with a smooth finish from one year of aging.

Breweries expect miniature products to make traditional liquors more approachable while enhancing brand promotion. Shillye Myeongju also won a Gold Medal at Belgium’s Monde Selection last year, earning international recognition for its quality. The release of this miniature version is expected to help showcase the appeal of Korean distilled spirits worldwide.

  • K-pop Demon Hunters’ “Golden” Tops Billboard Hot 100 for Third Consecutive Week

The Netflix animation K-pop Demon Hunters OST track “Golden” has secured the No.1 spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart for the third week in a row.

Following Stray Kids’ album KARMA reaching No.1 on the Billboard 200, this marks the first time in about five years since BTS’s BE and “Life Goes On” that K-pop has simultaneously dominated both the singles and albums charts.

    During the latest tracking week, “Golden” racked up 35.3 million streams (+4%), 19.7 million radio airplay impressions (+21%), and 9,000 sales (+11%), maintaining its explosive momentum. Its 10-week chart run shows a steady climb: 81 → 23 → 6 → 4 → 2 → 2 → 1 → 2 → 1 → 1. This achievement makes “Golden” the third K-pop song to hold No.1 on the Hot 100 for at least three weeks, following BTS’s “Butter” (10 weeks) and “Dynamite” (3 weeks).

This week’s Hot 100 top 10 also features four tracks from the OST, with “Your Idol” at No.4, “Soda Pop” at No.5, and “How It’s Done” at No.9, further showcasing the soundtrack’s global dominance.

  • Will La Niña Arrive This Fall? Korea Expected to See Warmer, Wetter Conditions

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has projected a 55% probability of La Niña occurring this fall.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA), the likelihood of La Niña forming between September and November is 55%, while neutral conditions stand at 45%. Extending the outlook to October through December, the probability rises to 60%.

La Niña occurs when sea surface temperatures in the equatorial eastern Pacific remain below average, influencing global climate patterns both directly and indirectly.

In Korea, if La Niña develops between September and October, temperatures tend to be higher and rainfall more frequent than normal. This is because cooler waters in the tropical central Pacific strengthen anticyclonic circulation over the North Pacific, drawing in warm, humid southerly winds. Conversely, when La Niña occurs in November to December, stronger northerly winds often bring colder, drier weather. However, in recent years, other climate factors—such as Arctic sea ice and sea surface temperatures in the Indian and Atlantic Oceans—have caused November to still experience warmer and wetter conditions, leaving uncertainties in predictions.

The KMA stated, “We are closely monitoring the possibility of La Niña and will continue to observe the impacts of changing climate factors.”

  • K-POP DEMON HUNTERS Boosts South Korea Tourism

The global success of Netflix’s animation K-POP DEMON HUNTERS is directly boosting South Korea’s tourism market.

According to global travel platform Klook, bookings for Korea-related travel products surged after the film’s release, with both traffic and reservations rising even during the off-season months of June and July. In particular, K-pop-related bookings increased by 80% compared to pre-release levels, with significant growth from neighboring countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Among them, the “K-pop Idol Styling Experience” rose 200%, while dance classes increased 40%, reflecting the film’s popularity.

Reservations for Seshin experiences increased by 11% overall, while sauna passes in Seoul’s Seodaemun and Jongno districts rose by 57% and 15%, respectively. In response, Klook announced plans to launch more diverse Seshin experience products, such as “one-person Seshin shops.”

The popularity of K-POP DEMON HUNTERS  is also evident on the ground. An operator of a K-pop dance class said, “We’ve recently received more inquiries from people wanting to learn songs from the film, so we structured our September classes mainly around K-POP DEMON HUNTERS.” They added, “We’re also seeing a noticeable increase in younger customers, especially under teens.
